The novel A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle is about an adolescent girl named Meg who experiences a journey through space and time. Along with her brother, Charles, and friend, Calvin, the three attempt to rescue Meg’s father from evil. Through a series of adventures and obstacles, Meg deals with struggles with societal expectations and personal identity.
I found the following CERCA Sets, Applied Lessons, and QuickCERCAs work well as supplementary texts when I teach A Wrinkle in Time in my classroom. These informational texts help my students better understand the concept of perseverance and the theme of individuality versus conformity. With a better understanding of these concepts, my students connect the topics to their personal lives and begin to form complex arguments. My students demonstrate a sincere interest in this topic, and they reflect their engagement in their writing.
